Tim Holtz 12 Tags of 2016- August

Hello and Welcome Everyone,

Hope you are all going good and enjoying your weekend. Its been a stressful couple of weeks here, but yesterday I finally got to spend  some time in my 'happy place' creating this months Tim Holtz 12Tags of 2016- just the tonic I needed!

As I have pretty much stuck to Tim's tutorial for this month's technique remix tag- 'Brayered stains and Frameworks,' I have just a few photos to share.
Here they are

The colour palette I have worked with is Wild Honey distress stain( brayered) , Rusty Hinge and Walnut Stain distress inks inked with blending tool) . I also used Black Soot distress ink to distress the edges of the tag.

I used paper from the 'Dapper' pad, gold mirror, textile and textured surfaces for the inner pieces of the honeycomb frameworks.

The ideology mirrored star is tinted with Latte Alcohol ink and with my sewing machine back  'in situ' I was able to add some stitching to my tag and of course some of my much loved paint splatters.

Stencil it! - A Vintage Journey- August 2016 Challenge

Hello Everyone and Welcome

Its so lovely to see you all again. Hope you are all doing good and keeping on the happy side.

Today we launch our new Challenge over at A Vintage Journey and its my pleasure to be hosting.  
This time the theme is

'Stencil it!'

There are so many fantastic stencils available to us right now and so many ways in which to use them. We would like you to include stenciling in whatever it is you choose to create for this challenge. Don't forget inks, spray. paints,texture/embossing pastes are all stencil 'friendly'. So be sure to have fun and embrace your stencils in your vintage, shabby, mixed media,art journalling, industrial or steampunk projects

So for my 'Stencil It' project I chose to reacquainted myself with my much neglected art journal and create a journo spread that has both striking imagery and a meaningful message about 'self doubt'  using several stencils with various mediums- paints, inks, texture paste and gilding wax.

Be prepared to scroll as it is rather a long post but if you're all set lets get started. 
With an initial idea in mind - I wanted two silhouette faces looking at each other- the risk of any 'blank page' syndrome was thankfully reduced. 
 I created the face silhouettes using the following products (yes I know I'm a bit of a 'clean freak' with my stencils, all my craft goodies to be honest)

I also applied Broken China distress ink with a blending tool to add some colour to the space between the two facial images.

 

  I applied transparent texture paste through Tim Holtz flourish layering stencil over the face silhouettes.

(Apologies for the difference in colour tone of the Broken China. I must have taken these photos in a different light/ time of day.  I can assure you though they are the same pages not as they say 'Ones I made earlier'! The texture paste is a lot glossier too than the lens has picked up)

I worked on the space between the reflecting images using a few Tim Holtz layering stencils with distress inks.(oops seems I omitted to include Tims bubbles stencil in the photo- sorry)

and some of Tim Holtz stamps with archival ink aswell as one other stamp from my stash

I began with some Monoprint stenciling. Some Tim Holtz spritz and flick technique too

then some darker stenciling and stamping. The gloss of the transparent paste can be seen better here. 

Tims new Numeric stencil give the pages some number symmetry

I used silver gilding wax to give the flourish stenciling an aged metallic appearance. Again it proved tricky to get the photos to show the full effect ,but believe me it really does look impressive!

and the quote (Thanks Tim) that resonates so deeply for me says exactly what I am trying to convey through these pages!
