Stencil It! A Vintage Journey, June 2018 Challenge

Hi Everyone and Welcome

Hope you are all ok and that the last week in May has been kind to you all. June already!!
 Where does the time go?
So as we welcome in the start of Summer and hopefully warmer days and nights (yay) we at
A Vintage Journey hope you will welcome our new challenge that goes live today. Lovely Astrid is our host and her challenge is

Stencil It!
Create a project using at least one stencil, in a style that fits our challenge focus- vintage, shabby, mixed media, art journaling, industrial, timeworn or steampunk. There are so many possibilities to be creative with stencils on your cards, journals, layouts, ATC's or 3D projects. Stencils offer endless possibilities, be creative and have fun!

With our last challenge 'Words and Music' still on my mind and having had U2 playing on a loop ever since, my project for this challenge was highly influenced by both factors. As you are now well aware I am a big U2 fan and I was super happy to have recently come across a stencil of Bono when 'window shopping'! Of course it fell in to my basket , arrived a few days later and I have christened it by creating a mixed media art panel for Astrid's challenge.
Song for Someone . (click here to watch and listen or listen whilst scrolling)
The panel itself is a 6x6 mdf panel covered with torn papers: lyrics to the U2 track 'Song for Someone' printed out on copy paper along with the musical score 'bits' from Tim Holtz Melange tissue wrap. Both were adhered and sealed with matt medium .
Distress inks and oxides added colour and were applied using both the wrinkle free distress technique and the blending tool. I continued to 'mess' with the colour throughout the whole creative process.
Tim Holtz grit paste was applied with a palette knife through the positioned stencil of Bono. The stencil is actually A4 in size so I positioned it in accordance to the surface area I was working on.
Once the grit paste dried the stencil was repositioned and black acrylic paint applied to colour the grit paste.
The edges of the panel were embossed with Seth Apter/ Emerald Creek 'Rocky Road' Baked Texture.
I LOVE this flavour and if I had been sure I had enough of those magic granules I would have used them to stencil too - maybe next time! .
Bono's silhouette was highlighted with a white pen
and the finished mixed media panel was mounted onto Tim Holtz metallic Kraft Core and black mattboard.
I have to say I was super impressed with the cut of the stencil as the image is undoubtedly Bono - I'm sure you'll agree.
Whether you are a U2/ Bono fan or not I hope I have offered some creative inspiration with my stenciled project. Some of my fellow Creative Guides have been busy creating with stencils too so be sure to stop by A Vintage Journey to view all their fabulous projects .

I would like to enter this project into the following challenges:
Country View Crafts June 2018: 'The Written Word' (add text in some form)
Before I sign out for today I would just like to say a mega huge thank you to those of you who blew me away with the love you left me for my U2 T-shirt posted here. I was totally overwhelmed and incredibly humbled by the amazing response it received. You guys 'Rock' and sure know how to make my heart happy!

Thanks too for taking the time to stop by today and for any comments you wish to leave.
Your kind words ,visits, follows  and support are very much appreciated .
Hope you all have a lovely weekend
and until I see you again
'keep on the happy side'

  2. Amanda this piece is a knock out! What a fantastic stencil you scored, and edging the piece with rocky road was perfection. I can relate to not knowing if there will be enough of that yummy baked texture, but I think keeping bono in the black over grit looks amazing! Love your piece, what wonderful inspiration for the stencil it challenge. Thanks for sharing. ~Ann xx

  6. Wow - what a powerful stencil on this Amanda! Your background is lovely with the music and pastes and embossing powders - doing the stencil first in white and then painting it black left a lovely white shadow around Bono! Awesome project! Julia xx

  12. Incredible stencilling - the grit paste painted black is so dramatic, particularly with that white shading to make it pop. The background is also stunning, especially the textures around the edges. Drama and beauty - wow!

  19. Well, Amanda, you have managed to knock my socks off once again, with your musical piece! I love the background and that stencil must surely be a favorite for you! I happen to appreciate the grit/black for Bono and saving the Baked Texture for the edging--great choices! Sending hugs and apologies for being late. Not much time for the computer lately.
