'Celebration Time Come On'- A Vintage Journey March 2020 Challenge.

Hi Everyone and Welcome

Hope you are all doing good and enjoying a lovely weekend
Our new challenge is now live over at A Vintage Journey and as we are celebrating our 6th Birthday the theme is

'CelebrationTime Come On '.
Our lovely Brenda is out host and here's what she has to say (and sing)

'Yes! let's celebrate our 6th Birthday.
Do you remember the words from the Kool and the Gang song?
'There's a party goin' on right here
A celebration to last through the years
So bring your good times, and your laughter too
We gonna celebrate your party with you.
Come on now (Celebration)
Let's all celebrate and have a good time
(Celebration) We gonna celebrate and have a good time!'

Ok ... so over to you to show us what you are celebrating in your art and craft work at the moment. Don't forget to link us into your blog post and if it's not really obvious share with us how your project relates to the challenge theme. Just remember to create your project in one of our preferred styles: vintage, shabby, mixed media, art journaling, industrial, timeworn or steampunk.

The celebrations have already started over at AVJ so I'm rocking up 'fashionably late' with my Celebration contribution.

When AVJ first started out 6 years ago (here) it was a challenge blog for vintage, shabby chic and mixed media artists. It focused on the style, techniques, products and ideas of Tim Holtz and as it was my discovery of Tims distress inks that got me back creating after a long time away I thought I would celebrate AVJ's roots and indeed my own creative blogging roots with a 'Tim Holtz' inspired project:
a mixed media tag with a grungy vibe!
Well,  I am a 'grungy' girl at heart after all so it seemed only right for me to celebrate the grunge!

Now I had a real 'party' with Tims mediums and distress colours to create the background using Distress Stains, Distress Paints and Distress Spray stains in Mermaid Lagoon, Peacock Feathers, Salty Ocean, Lucky Clover, Walnut Stain....

I added some detail stamping using a couple of Tims background stamps: 'Craze' and 'Newsprint' .Both these stamps thought their birthdays had come all at once as it was their debut stamping even though I have had them since they were first released! I know, my bad! (hangs head in shame)

There's some crackled stenciling using Tim's first ever layering stencil (TH001) with Ranger Crackle Paste. Some blended distress crayon in Ground Espresso and Black Soot helped grunge up the additional crackle that found its way around the sides of the tag.

The focal feature is 'The Professor' himself. He's taken from Tim's new release Professor 2 stamp set. Again, he's joining the party of being inked and stamped for the first time (like the background stamps) but luckier than them he hasn't had to wait so long !!

His head is haloed with a framed distressed dial. The dial is from Tim's 'Professor' stamp set and the textured frame is a die cut treated to some grit paste and distress paint. Some glossy accents added a touch of 'cool' to the Professors' goggle lenses giving him '2020' vision!

Some extra distressed stamped pieces and some of Tims ideology helped to embellish and accessorise. A grungy girls equivalent to party glitter and bling!

There's a couple of stamped labels, a metal ruler, some nail heads and a couple of arrows, along with an altered wooden enforcement ring to dress up the tag hole.

So that's my Tim Holtz inspired tag for our 'Celebration' challenge .
Happy 6th Birthday! AVJ.
Thank you for having me on board for 4 and 1/4 of those years.
I'm one lucky grungy girl for sure!

I hope you have enjoyed your time here with me today and that maybe I have offered some creative inspiration for our 'Celebration' Challenge .

  9. I was just wondering how on earth I'd managed to leave you out of my AVJ commenting hop, but I think I remember now that you were a late addition. I'm so sorry it's taken me so long to catch up with this incredible tag.... grungetastic! I adore your crackled lettering and the metal ruler is a fabulous addition. Love, love, love it as a celebration of your style, technique and flair!
