Hello Everyone and Welcome 

Today is a 'pinch me is this for real' moment in my art / blog journey as I am one of the Artist /designers invited to be a part of this Seth Apter, PaperArtsy, Emerald Creek and Eileen Hull 'Get Wrapped' blog hop. 

This hop is all about having fun and celebrating cross brand creativity and I can't begin to tell you how super thrilled and truly honoured I am to be a part of it! 

Before I tell you about the fabulous prize we have on offer and all the talented artist taking part let me share with you what I have made to mark what is, for me, a memorable occasion..... 

We were all given some wonderful products that we had to use :

From Seth Apter - One of Seth's ltd edition Paper Artsy paint sets. (I received set #3 Summer.). 

From Emerald Creek Craft Supplies - Some of Emerald Creek/ Seth Apter Baked Texture embossing powders (I received Ancient Amber, Chunky Rust, Patina Oxide, Deep Sea) an Emerald Creek stamp and fancy metal brads 

From Eileen Hull- Wrap around journal die cuts 

As well as using the provided supplies we could also use any other products we wish . I used some of my own 'Seth Stash' - a couple of Seth's stamps (dot matrix, tryptech), a few more Seth / Paper Artsy paints (midnight, mahogany, glacier ice) one of Seth's embossing folders (Gridiron) and one of Seth's dies (steering wheel). 

There was no creative direction or themes given, we were encouraged to to do our own thing, follow our artistic muse and create whatever we desired. 

So I did a bit of 'thinking outside the box' for my project and decided to make a clock!

The journal die cut forms the body of the clock and is painted inside and out with midnight. The inner walls of the clock (the inside of the journal) are stamped with the wheels from the Emerald Creek stamp. 

The panels, adhered to the outer walls of the clock (the outside of the journal) are embossed using Seth's embossing folder and painted by monoprinting, brayering and dry brushing. 

The panels are also heat embossed here and there with Baked Textures. There's Ancient Amber , 

and Chunky Rust as well as some delicate sprinklings of Deep Sea and Patina Oxide 

Ancient Amber also feature on the joins where the clock walls meet 

and they are shown in all their glory on the face of the clock - Seth's Steering wheel die. 

Here's the recipe from bottom to top 

The base circle is a 'blend' of Ancient Amber and Chunky Rust . 

The outer wheel circle- Patina Oxide 

The inner circle of the wheel die- Ancient Amber 

The small base circle - Ancient Amber with sprinklings of Patina Oxide, Deep Sea and Chunky Rust The 'X's - Patina Oxide, Deep Sea, Ancient Amber. 

A metal lock is attached to the back of the clock (what would be the front if it was a journal) 

to enable easy access to the clock mechanism to alter the time or change the batteries. 

Theres also a stamped 'box' base to hold spare batteries . 

The clock can also be accessed from the top 

as there is a removable 'box' lid that slots easily into the top of the clock 

It's decorated with a metal handle and a couple of Emerald Creek brads altered with Ancient Amber Baked Texture. 

With the hands fixed in place my clock is up and running, ticking away. 

No excuse now for not being on time!

Baked Love

Hi Everyone and Welcome 

I got the 'baking' bug again! Yes, I've been in my art 'kitchen' again creating with Seth Apters/ Emerald Creeks fabulous Baked Texture Embossing powders.

Usually Versamark is my 'go to' medium when embossing but often that results in a smooth finish which wasn't really what I was after. I was after a more textural finish. So I used Finnabair's heavy body gel with the Baked Textures and I have to say I was super impressed with the result!

They were just the ideal partners to create real depth of texture!

I used 6 flavours of Baked Texture

Rocky Road, Deep Sea, Patina Oxide, Chunky Rust, Ancient Amber and Dirty Sand

and they created a fabulous array of colour, tone and texture blending together as well as standing alone to hold their own identity.   

I was reluctant to embellish as I was loving all the texture and colour so I kept it simple- a length of rusty metal, die cut circles, a brass handle and a heart.....

... a Baked Texture Patina Oxide heart that I made using a silicone heart mould - the sort you use to make sweet treats! Well I was 'baking' after all!  Isn't is lush, almost good enough to eat!

Baked Art!

Hi Everyone and Welcome

Just a quick post today to share a little piece of 'baked art' ! If you haven't already guessed I really am enjoying experimenting with Seth Apters/ Emerald Creeks Baked Textures

This time I baked with Vintage Beeswax as I wanted to try out the 'faux encaustic' look/ effect that you can create so easily with this flavour. Here's a link to a great video where Seth demos baking with Vintage Beeswax and explains it all far better than I .

I used a framed  mdf ATC by That's Crafty. These come in two parts, the frame and the ATC insert itself . Very inexpensive and there's 10 in one pack .

The frame is textured with sand paste, painted with 'Rust It' and black acrylic paint and touched with vintage gold gilding wax to highlight the texture. The ATC insert is covered with torn book papers and choc box lining paper with an old postage stamp I found in my stash of 'saves' adhered on top . I added a light touch of colour using distress inks and then 'baked'. I know at the very least it was triple embossed but after that I lost count - hey I was having fun and in art there are no rules - right? 

Whilst heating the Vintage Beeswax I was able to seal in the black gem dots and the remnant rubs. I left the film covering on the remnant rubs in place whilst heating which helped shield the remnant rubs from excessive heat and prevent them from shrivelling up and losing their identity. I also controlled the heat by holding the heat gun a good distance away from my work, pulling back at any signs of the rubs over heating. The top film will peel away with a little help from a pointy tool when the wax is cooled .

A quick, simple project that I sure had fun 'baking!'

Rust It! - A Vintage Journey April 2018 Challenge

Its good to be here again to introduce our new challenge that starts today over at A Vintage Journey. Lovely Autumn is our host this time and her chosen challenge is

'Rusty and Crusty!'

'Many of us love rust and enjoy looking for new ways to get tat authentic look of crusty peeling metal. For this challenge include some rust in your vintage, shabby, mixed media, art journaling, industrial, timeworn or steampunk project, whether it be the real thing, a faux technique or just a rust colour on your project.'

I have been in my 'happy place' using texture paste, paints and those fabulous baked textures to create an 'art panel' rich in texture, dimension, colour and rusty tones. 

Much like my last project I neglected the camera during the creativity so not many process shots to share but quite a few close ups.

  The background panel is a wooden plaque primed with gesso and roughly covered with the dregs of a pot of crackle paste. For the colour I used Tim Holtz distress stains and distress paints along with some DecoArt media fluids-- mainly rich warm tones. I couldn't resist sprinkling a few of Seth Apter/Emerald Creeks Baked Texture EP's around either. Patina Oxide, Ancient Amber, Deep Sea. Dirty Sand and of course Chunky Rust were all part of the creativity recipe.

The cracks from the paste aren't that visible probably due to all the layers of paint and stains

but it does create some great texture which the baked texture EP's loved melting into and on top of .

To create the rusty edges I used Rust it' paint by Pinflair .

along with a couple of DecoArt Media fluids

and yes you guessed it some Chunky Rust Baked Texture EP

which adds lighter rusty tones to the darker 'Rust It' paint aswell as some texture. 

The smaller panel is mdf covered with Sand paste /Grunge paste and painted with 'Rust it'.

I 'baked' again too using the same blend of flavours I had used so far - just look at them -whats not to love and that's even before they have seen heat!!! 

And when they have....

You can't fail to be impressed.

They really are so unique unlike any other EP's I have used previously

The centre circle is covered with an image from an old technical drawing book, lightly inked with distress ink and then triple embossed with Vintage Beeswax which gives a fabulous encaustic appearance. There are also sprinkles of Patina Oxide, Chunky Rust and Ancient Amber embedded into the melted beeswax.

For the finishing touch I added a few pieces of Metal hardware painted with rust it to embellish .
