Happy Birthday to You!

Hi Everyone , 

It's been a while since I last posted here on my blog so thought I'd share a card I created and shared across my social media accounts (IG and FB) the other week. 

It' a real quick and easy make that involved inking, stamping, stencilling and die cutting using Tim Holtz fabulous products - some not so new, some new. 

The 'not so news' ( but never outdated or past their use by date) were Tim's Stampers Anonymous 'Newsprint' stamp and one of his Sissix Bold Text dies from set #1. 

The newbies were one of Tim's new stencils 'Lined Squares' and the ever so delicious new addition to the distress colour family 'Unchartered Mariner'. 

These stencils 🖤, this colour 💙🖤!!

For this card I teamed 'Unchartered Mariner' up with Mustard Seed, Fossilised Amber, Chipped Sapphire and Black Soot. I love how they played together! 

Unfortunately I didn't capture any process shots so only photos of the finished card to share today.

The wrinkle free distress Mustard Seed, Fossilised Amber, Unchartered Mariner inky background peaks through the focal bold text die sentiment.

 

The Unchartered Mariner stencilling in opposite corners of the background gradually intensifing in colour through to Black Soot emphasises these areas and also helps to draw the viewing eye in to the focal sentiment.

 Some delicate text stamping to the sides of the stencilling adds just a touch of detail and interest to those areas to finish off.

Happy Birthday to You....

 Hi Everyone 

It's been far too long since I posted something here on my blog that isn't a quick dt redirect post so my hope and aim moving forward is to try and post more often some of the 'things, makes and creates' that come from any 'self' creative time I have. 

Today seems like as good a time as any to make a start so here goes .....  

I've recently been having fun creating with some of Tim Holtz products both new and not so new. You may have seen the card I shared here and here last week and the postcard I shared yesterday here and here that featured a couple of  Tim's new Stampers Anonymous stampsets: 'Inquisitive' and /or 'Observations'.

The tag I'm sharing today features Tim's new Stampers Anonymous 'Bold Sayings' (CMS433) stampset, along with the new layering stencil: 'Nature'(THS154) and the new distress colour 'Prize Ribbon'.  

Now, I may be a little 'blue biased' (it's one of my fave colours in all it's many guises) but 'Prize Ribbon' is rather lush and I have a good feeling we are gonna become inky friends. 

Dare I stick my neck out and say I reckon it would team up with pretty much every other distress colour in the family ???  I'm sure gonna be trying to see! 

On this occasion it's a Prize Ribbon and Crackling Campfire distress spray stain combo with the odd speckle of Salvaged Patina distress oxide spray. 

 

Now, I thought I'd taken a pic of the inky background before I added to it but after scouring my camera for 'said' photo it seems I didn't so apologies for falling short there. 

Hopefully though the few photos I do have to share will demonstrate the richness and depth of the colours both individually in their own right and together as a fabulous combo. 

They also show the Salvaged Patina Oxide speckles.  

When using inks I almost always use Oxides to speckle/ splatter as their properties allow them to sit on top of the inks already laid down rather than be absorbed into them. 

I chose to use the 'Happy Birthday' Bold Saying stamp. It a great size for a #8 tag and 'the fit' allowed it to be the focal feature. 

Embossing the saying with white powder gave it the 'spotlight' against the richer background tones and 

I love how the Salvaged Patina Oxide speckles still made themselves known through the embossing and how they shifted colour slightly to a light blue.  

Tim's new 'Nature' layering stencil design, again embossed in white worked a treat to fill in the space above and below the 'bold saying'.

A couple of Tim's Stampers Anonymous 'Tiny Text' stamps embossed in white on black card personalised the 'bold saying' and indeed the tag.

It's all ready now to give to a special friend, either attached to a gift or instead of a card.

Tag Friday at A Vintage Journey - June 2017.

Hi Everyone and Welcome

Today over at A Vintage Journey its Tag Friday ! I'm sure many of you are familiar with this tradition but for those of you aren't let me explain . When there are 5 Fridays in a month, the 5th Friday sees some of the Creative Guides create and post a tag .There are no rules or themes just a chance for us to follow our muse, go with the flow and create using a tag.
So I am here today to share with you my 'Tag Friday' tag.
Believe it or not I set out thinking I would make something bright and summery but I guess my subconscious mind thought otherwise and led me to to create a deep and meaningful tag.

I cut a panel from a much larger wrinkle free background that I had created at some point in the past and added a touch more colour using Distress inks with a blending tool.
I then die cut a tag from the panel and added some stamping using Indigo Blu's 'Rain Droplets' stamp with Jet Black archival ink and some stencilling using Tim Holtz 'Rays' layering stencil with DecoArt crackle paste and Black Soot distress paint. The cracks once formed were enhanced with gilding wax and the tag mounted onto cream and black card stock.

The focal image taken from an Invoke stamp set- 'Face blocks' was stamped on cream card stock using Jet black Archival ink and then water coloured with Distress inks.
To frame the face I used the outer part of the circle from Seth Apters Wood Chip set. I altered it using Deco Art texture sand paste and Back Soot distress paint. The framed face is adhered to a thin strip of mount board altered in the same way as the circle Wood Chip. As with the cracks the texture is enhanced with gilding wax.

I love this image - to me it is so emotive, it tells a story

maybe  a story of someones own personal journey experiencing some bright 'sunny highs' and extreme dark 'rainy lows',
experiences which have helped them start to belief in themselves....
